15TH DAY: LESSONS AT NEWARK ACADEMY AND FAREWELL

Hoy hemos empezado el día despidiéndonos de la familia. Por la mañana temprano, muy agradecidos, dejamos nuestros hogares americanos para pasar toda la mañana en Newark Academy. Nos hicieron una despedida en el salón de actos y nos dieron un obsequio de regalo para cada uno: camisetas y softshells. Asistimos a clase con nuestros hermanos americanos. Algunos fuimos a las clases de español, otros de música, … A las 12:30 comimos en el restaurante del cole, tal como hacen ellos todos los días y tomamos helados de postre. Pasmos toda la mañana como si fuésemos alumnos de Newark Academy y volvimos a clase después de comer. Todavía faltaban dos sesiones más. A las 2:30 comenzamos de nuevo a despedirnos de todos nuestros amigos y amigas, algunos padres y madres y profesoras. Fue un momento muy triste para todos y algunos/as no paraban de llorar. Esperamos volver a vernos muy pronto! See you!

Today we have started saying our goodbyes to our host families. We woke up early in the morning and left our American homes for the Newark Academy. They gathered us all together in the auditorium to give us a farewell and then gave all of us gifts: shirts and soft shells. Then we went to class with our American brothers and sisters. Some of us went to a Spanish class, other to music…. At 12:30 we ate lunch in the school cafeteria like they do every day and had ice cream for dessert. We spent the whole morning as if we were actual students of Newark Academy. After lunch there were still two more classes left in the day and after we ate we went back to class. At 2:30 we started over and began to say our goodbyes again to all of our teachers, host parents, and new friends. It was a very sad moment for all of us and some could not help but crying. We all want to come back very soon! See you!

14TH DAY: AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY AND CENTRAL PARK

Hola a todos! Hoy me levanté por la mañana y fuí a desayunar como todos los días. Para mí sorpresa el padre de Wes me había preparado unos magnificos pancakes con un batido de fruta que estaba muy bueno. Después nos dirigimos al colegio y una vez allí nos juntamos todos los estudiantes españoles y cogimos un autobús que nos llevó de camino a Nueva York. Visitamos el museo de Historia Natural donde había muchas figuras de animales y todo era muy bonito. Al terminar nuestra visita al museo nos dirigimos a Central Park, donde sentados todos en bancos comimos nuestro almuerzo mientras las palomas estaban por allí jugando. Vimos varios lugares muy bonitos de Central Park y luego entramos en la tienda de Apple para que los que quisieran compraran algunas cosas. De regreso paramos en una sala de juegos donde anduvimos en los coches de choques. Una vez de vuelta en casa de Wes, me encontré con una señora que era ecuatoriana y que hablaba muy bien el español y estuvimos un montón de tiempo hablando de política y de los hermanos de Wes. Ella era una persona muy interesante y cuidaba a los hermanos de Wes cuando los padres estaban muy ocupados. Ella también me dijo que era profesora en una escuela. Por la noche cenamos unas pizzas que trajo el padre de Wes y despues de la cena ellos me dieron un montón de regalos. Todos ellos eran muy bonitos. Nos comimos un helado mientras veíamos la película de Harry Potter y me fuí para cama. Así acaba el día de hoy. Un saludo. David Campos Pazos

Hello everyone! Today I got up in the morning and went to eat breakfast just like every other day. Wes´ father surprised me and made some magnificent pancakes with a fruit sauce that was very good. After, we headed to the school and upon arrival we all got together and got on a bus headed for NYC. We visited the museum of natural history where there were lots of animal figures and everything was just lovely. Then we ended our visit in the museum and headed over to Central Park. We all sat on benches and ate our lunch while pigeons flocked around us playing. We saw many beautiful places in Central Park and afterwards we left the park and walked into the Apple Store so that students could buy something if they wanted. Coming back, we stopped at an arcade where we all took turns riding in bumper cars. Back at Wes´ house I found myself with an Ecuadorian woman that spoke Spanish very well. We spoke for a great deal of time talking about politics and Wes´ two brothers. She was a very interesting person who also takes care of Wes when his parents are busy. She also told me that she too used to be a school teacher. At night, we ate pizza for dinner that Wes´ dad brought home and after eating they gave me a ton of gifts. They were all so beautiful. For dessert we had ice cream while we watched Harry Potter and then I went to bed. That’s how I spent today. Salutations. David Campos Pazos

13TH DAY: American Cuisine (Hands on cooking class at the Rosen’s Home)

Hoy hemos empezado el día desayunando en Newark Academy ( chocolate y Dunkin donuts). Uhmmm, buenísimos. Después hemos ido a una casa victoriana que era enorme a cocinar con Dolly . Ella es muy buena cocinera y la comida estaba muy rica. Primero tomamos sidra caliente (estaba buena pero creo que me gustaría más si estuviese fría). Nos enseñó como se preparaba todo para el día de acción de gracias tal como hacía ella con su familia. La mesa estaba preciosa. Nos enseñó a cocinar pollo relleno, galletitas con formas para adornar una tarta... Hicimos dos tartas, pero la que más me gustó fue la de nueces que estaba riquísima ; Además de eso elaboramos puré de batata , de color naranja, puré de guisantes , una especie de mermelada de frutas del bosque,… todo para acompañar al pollo asado. Al terminar de cocinar nos lo comimos todo. Estaba buenísimo. Uxía

Today we started the day having breakfast at Newark Academy (chocolate and Dunkin donuts). Uhmmmm, delicious. After that, we went to a very big Victorian house to cook with Dolly. She is a very good chef and the food was very, very tasty. First, we had a sort of hot cider (It was ok but I think it would be better if it was cold). Dolly showed us how things are prepared at home for Thanksgiving Day. The table was lovely. She showed us how to cook stuffed chicken, shaped cookies to decorate a cake... We cooked two different pies but, what I liked the most was the one with nuts that was delicious; Besides of this, we made mashed potatoes, puréed peas, a kind of wild fruits jam,.. .all this meal to match the stuffed chicken. When we ended cooking we ate all the dishes. It was delicious.

12TH DAY: WESPOINT ACADEMY

Hoy fuimos a visitar la academia militar de West Point. Cuando llegamos, estuvimos un tiempo en el museo viendo los trajes de los militares, las camas y esas cosas. Luego, una guía llamada Verónica nos llevó de gira por toda la academia. Conducía el conductor del autobús, aunque no era “The Boss” y no nos lo pasamos tan bien como con él. La visita comenzó enseñándonos las residencias donde viven los estudiantes y unos lugares representativos. Caminamos un rato por los campos y admiramos las hermosas vistas del río Hudson. A continuación, nos llevó a ver una capilla donde van los alumnos de la academia y se celebran bodas. Después de eso, fuimos a dejar a Verónica en el museo y nos fuimos a un "outlet" enorme de compras. En el "outlet" había muchísimas tiendas, pero sólo teníamos 1 hora y media para recorrerlas, lo que hizo que no pudiéramos ir a todas las que queríamos. Yo fui con Adrián a la tienda de Adidas, donde me compré una camiseta. Luego acompañé a Adrián a un montón de tiendas hasta la 1:45. A esa hora nos fuimos a comprar comida al Mcdonalds y regresamos al autobús para irnos a Newark Academy. Al llegar al colegio busqué a Will y nos fuimos a casa.

Today we go to Westpoint, the military academy. When we arrived there, we were at the museum watching the militar clothes and similar things. Later, a guide called Veronica gave us a guided tour of the military academy. The driver wasn't "The Boss" and we didnt spend such a good time as with him. The visit started showing us the residences where students live and some representative places. We walked through the fields and we saw the beautiful views of Hudson river. Then, we went to see a chapel where students go and the weddings are celebrated. After that, we said goodbye to Verónica and went to a very big outlet to buy some clothes and some other things. There were a lot of shops in the outlet but, we only had one and a half hour to go shopping. I went with Adrian to the Adidas' shop and I bought a T-shirt. Then, I went with him to a lot of shops but I didn't buy anything. At 2:00 pm we went up the bus to go to Newark Academy. When we arrived at Newark Academy, I looked for Will and we went to his house. Borja

11TH DAY: THE STATUE OF LIBERTY AND ELLIS ISLAND

Hoy me levanté a las 07:00. Desayuné y me vestí. Fuimos al colegio y estuvimos allí hasta las 08:45. Visitamos La Estatua de la Libertad, la isla de Ellis y después fuimos a comer unos perritos calientes. Al terminar fuimos al puente de Brooklyn y caminamos un rato. Pasamos por la zona cero cuando íbamos en el bus y llegamos al colegio a las 17:30. Fui a buscar a Julia y nos fuimos a su casa. Estuve en el ordenador y luego un rato con Julia. Cenamos pollo y después fuimos al centro a tomar helado. Al volver me duché, estuve en el ordenador y me fuí a dormir.

Today we woke up at 7:00. I had breakfast and got dressed. We went to school and we were there until 8:45. Then, we visited the Statue of Liberty, Ellis island and Later we had lunch some hot dogs. When we finished, we walked towards Brooklyn Bridge and crossed it. We saw The Ground Zero from the bus. We came back to school around 17:30. I met Julia and we went to her house. I was at the computer and talked for a while with Julia. We had dinner chicken and later, we went to the center to have an ice-cream. Again at home, I had a shower, I chatted on the computer and we went to bed. Nerea

9TH AND 10TH DAYS: THE WEEKEND

Esta noche dormí en la enorme casa de un amigo de Bill. A la mañana fuimos a Newark Academy a ver a la hermana de Bill correr contra otras escuelas. Quedo de tercera. Al volver a casa comimos. A las 14.00 nos fuimos a ver el partido de fútbol de los Red Bulls, que ganaron 3-1. Despues, fuimos a cenar a un italiano a Morristown, pero estaba cerrado y fuimos a otro. Al volver a casa me fui a la cama, porque la noche anterior habia dormido sólo 5 horas. Domingo Hoy me levanté a las 09.45. Bill estaba en su entrenamiento de natación y sus padres fueron a trabajar. Estuve en el ordenador toda la mañana y despues de comer estuve jugando un rato a los dardos con Bill, y cuando se fue a hacer sus deberes yo estuve jugando a la x-box y viendo la tele. A las 17.45 llegó la madre de Bill y cenamos salmón.

Last night, I slept in the big Bill's friend's house. In the morning, we went to Newark Academy to see Bill's sister running vs other schools. She finished third. When we came back to Bills's home, we had lunch. At 14.00, we went to watch the Red Bulls' soccer game, and they won 3-1. Later, we went to have dinner to a italian restaurant in Morristown, but it was close and we went to other. When we came back home I went to my bed because the last night I slept only for 5 hours. Today, I got up at 09.45. Bill was at his swimming practise and his parents went to work. I was chatting at the computer all the morning and after eating I was playing dards with Bill. When he went to do his homework I was playing with the x-box and watching TV. At 17.45 Bill's mother arrived home and we had dinner salmon. Pablo

8TH DAY: PRINCETON UNIVERSITY AND GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE PARK

Hoy, como casi siempre, nos reunimos en el colegio. Después de dos horas en el autobús, llegamos a un parque que mostraba esculturas de arte moderno y reproducciones de cuadros famosos. El parque tenía también un restaurante. Lo recorrimos luego fuimos a la ciudad de Princeton en autobús, como siempre. Allí comimos en un restaurante italiano donde el chef era español y el queso muy fuerte. Visitamos algunas de las tiendas de Princeton y caminamos por las calles para conocer la ciudad. Algunos de mis amigos compraron prendas de vestir en la tienda de la universidad. Un poco más tarde fuimos al campus de la Universidad de Princeton. Fue fundada en 1746 y es la más importante de los EE.UU. después de la universidad de Harvard y Yale. Vimos sus bonitos edificios, residencias de estudiantes y los jardines de la universidad. Cuando llegamos al colegio sobre las 5:30 p.m. había una barbacoa para celebrar el comienzo del curso. Todo el mundo estaba comiendo hamburguesas y jugando pero yo no quise probarlas. Elena Rosendo

Today, as nearly always, we all met at school. After 2 hours in the bus, we arrived at a garden which showed modern art sculptures and famous pictures sculptures. The garden had a restaurant too. We walked through the park and then, we went to Princeton by bus, as usually. There, we had lunch in an Italian restaurant where the cook was Spanish and the cheese was very strong. We visited some of the Princeton's shops and then, we walked down the streets to know the small town. Some of my friends bought clothes from the university store. A bit later, we went to Princeton university, founded in 1746, and the most important in The USA after Harvard and Yale. We saw the beautiful buildings, students' residences and gardens belonging the university. When we arrived at school, around 5:30, there was a barbecue to celebrate the beginning of the school year. Everybody was eating hamburgers and playing outside but I didn't want to try any. Bye bye!
